Braiding FAQ

Everything people ask before their first visit, from how many packs of hair to buy to keeping your edges healthy. Still wondering about something? Call or text (719) 551-1159.

Booking & walk-ins

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 7pm. Cornrows, flat twists and up-dos are the easiest to fit in. For long styles like small knotless or micro braids, call ahead so Simone can save enough time for you.

What are your hours?

Monday through Saturday, 9am to 7pm. We're closed on Sundays.

How do I book an appointment?

Call or text (719) 551-1159 or email Hbsimone1@gmail.com with a photo of the style you want and your preferred day. You'll hear back with a time and price. You can also use the booking request form.

Where are you located?

18407 Pacific Ave S, Suite 16, Spanaway, WA 98387. It's an easy drive from JBLM, Parkland, Lakewood, Graham, Puyallup and south Tacoma.

I'm stationed at JBLM. How far are you?

Most of JBLM is a short drive down to Pacific Ave in Spanaway. Military families are always welcome, and walk-ins make it easy to fit braids around a busy schedule.

Prices & hair

How much do braids cost?

It depends on the style, size and length. Cornrows start at $90, box and knotless braids at $180, Senegalese twists at $180 and kids' braids at $70. Text a photo for an exact price before you come in.

Is braiding hair included?

You can bring your own pre-stretched braiding hair, or ask Simone to include it for the cost of the packs. Either way, she'll tell you exactly how many packs and which color number to get.

How many packs of hair do I need?

Medium knotless braids at mid-back length usually take 5 to 7 packs. Smaller braids and longer lengths need more. Text your photo first so you don't overbuy.

Why do prices vary so much between braiders?

Smaller braids and longer lengths take hours more work, and that's most of the price. A clear quote from your photo up front means no surprises at the end.

Prep & the appointment

Should I wash my hair before my appointment?

Yes. Come with hair washed, fully detangled and blow-dried or stretched. It saves time and gives a neater result. If you can't, ask for the wash add-on.

How long will I be in the chair?

Cornrows usually take one to three hours. Knotless braids and Senegalese twists take four to eight hours depending on size and length. Micro braids can take most of the day.

Can I bring my kids or a friend?

Kids getting braided are always welcome, and a parent stays with them. For long appointments, bring snacks, a charger and headphones.

Hair health & aftercare

Will braids damage my edges?

Not when they're done with the right tension and size and taken down on time. Simone keeps hairline braids a little larger and lighter. If braids hurt, cause a headache or leave bumps along your hairline, tell her right away. That's a sign they're too tight.

How long can I keep braids in?

Most braids are best taken down by six to eight weeks, and cornrows by about four. Leaving them in longer can cause matting and breakage at the root.

How do I stop my braids from getting frizzy?

Sleep in a satin bonnet or on a satin pillowcase. That one habit prevents most frizz. A little mousse once a week smooths flyaways.

Can I wash my braids?

Yes, gently, every two to three weeks. Use diluted shampoo on your scalp, rinse well and make sure they dry completely so they don't stay damp at the root.
