The look
What are Senegalese twists?
Senegalese twists are two-strand rope twists made with smooth extension hair. Instead of three strands woven together like a braid, two strands wrap around each other, which gives that sleek, glossy, corded look.
Because a twist uses two strands instead of three, it's usually lighter on your head than a braid the same size. Many clients find them more comfortable to sleep in and easier to put up.
The trade-off is that twists can loosen a little sooner than braids, especially at the ends. Simone seals the ends so they hold, and a quick touch-up of the front rows can stretch the style an extra week or two.

Questions people ask
Senegalese twists FAQ
How long do Senegalese twists last?
Usually four to six weeks. Twists can unravel a little faster than braids, so wrapping them at night and keeping your hands out of them makes a big difference. A front touch-up can buy you extra time.
Are Senegalese twists better than box braids?
Neither is better, they're just different. Twists are lighter and look sleek and glossy. Braids usually hold a bit longer and frizz a little less. If you're torn, show Simone a photo of each and she'll help you pick for your hair.
How much are Senegalese twists in Spanaway?
At Simone's they start at $180 for large twists, with smaller sizes and longer lengths priced higher. Text a photo to (719) 551-1159 for an exact quote.
How long does it take to get Senegalese twists?
Plan on four to eight hours depending on size and length. Medium twists at mid-back usually take five to six hours.
Can I swim or work out with Senegalese twists?
Yes. Rinse with clean water after swimming, squeeze out the extra and let them dry fully so they don't stay damp at the root. After the gym, a light spritz and a scarf help them stay fresh.
What's the difference between Senegalese and kinky twists?
Senegalese twists use smooth, silky hair for a sleek rope look. Kinky twists use textured hair that blends with natural hair and looks fuller and softer. Simone does both.
Make them last
Aftercare at home
- Wrap them at night in a satin bonnet or scarf to keep the ends sealed.
- Keep your hands out since twisting and pulling loosens them faster.
- Oil the scalp lightly a few times a week, not the twists themselves.
- Dip or re-seal loose ends if a few start to open up.
- Book a front touch-up around week 3 or 4 to keep them fresh.
